OPERATION FLASHPOINT DRAGON RISING REVIEW :-

Operation Flashpoint 2 does to the next gen what operation flashpoint did to the last gen but it desent kill your system. U.S. army soldier's take on it.

Operation Flashpoint is a very involve and very well made military simulation. I can tell the developers took their time with just how the firearms sound in this amazing game. the visual are not the best but work great and keep your system running in top form.

The Gameplay is a little hard but no frustrating. it keep you interested and makes you try different approaches as to how you go about assaulting a group of enemies. I had replay the same checkpoint 5 times and every time I when at it at a diferent angel and was keep entertained and satisfy with how many different options you have. I.E. when it comes to commanding your squad. you can tell them to suppress, flank, and assault, as well as keep them in a low profile and have them fire at your command so that you can sneak on your enemies.

The A.I. will also flank and as soon as you give your position you will have to flank them as well to keep them from swarming you from behind while they distract you with suppress fire. A.I is very smart but seem to always respawn at the same point.
Graphics and sound are amazing and the way bullets and explosions sound near you are really good at keeping you in your tip toes. I guess that's what the developers meant by as close to war as you may want to be. Visuals are a bit dark but the game work so flawlessly that it seem purposely built that way. objects in the game have very good render and detail.

Overall I would give this game a perfect 10 due to its replay value, action and tactics. if you like military sim this is the game you have to have. in the other hand if you don't like to plan the assault and just run and gun this game will be very frustrating for you do to the fact the just one simple bullet will kill you instantly and a wounded body part can kill you in just seconds if not treated. the good side to this is that as long as your medic is alive you can restore your health to max once again.

First off I am in the U.S. army and have been deployed and seen combat, so when reading this review I want you to consider that I am comparing this game to the real thing and not Call of Duty. This game comes closer than anything that i have played especially COD, people who play COD and then complain about OFPDR bullet drop should go to the range sometime, they got it spot on. And a little secret, we play the ambush mod of the original OFP when we get in country for initial convoy training if that tells you anything.
The damage effects in the game for the soldiers is accurate enough not to be disturbing but real enough to get the point across. Yes there are some pathing issues when the AI is driving but you must take into consideration that this game was designed to be played online. As far as the AI in the single player campaign or single mission, your squad performs excellently as if they are seasoned infantry vets that I have worked with. They leap frog, use A and B fire team tactics to fall back. They actually will flank right or left properly, and they will pull security and scan their lanes of fire without being told. In sum I would go to war with this infantry AI anytime. Moving on to the explosions of the artillery, mortars and air strikes OMG the finally got it right. The way the smoke will billow after the initial blast and the sound of the incoming artillery is amazing, not to mention they stick pretty close to the standard operating procedure that the army uses to call in fire missions (I would know, see initial sentence). For those of you who complain that the textures look last generation, you have to remember that the battlefield in rendered all at once, Skira is a big island and the fact that the game is restricted by the console's limitations in my opinion excuses what the ground texture looks like up close, but from afar it is breath taking.
The light rendering in this game is excellent and the sound is accurate as well. They captured what it sounds like to get shot at, the pop of the round if its close and the whiz if its not. Now for the vehicle handling, only speaking for the humvee since I have driven both unarmored and soft skin, it handles like it should to a degree thank goodness since the roll over a lot surprisingly, to counteract this the shifted the weight distribution to make it fish tail more, but other than that it handles like it does in real life. Cause lets face it fellow gamers your not going to ad-hear to the speed limit safety restrictions that come in the humvee's field manual are you, I didn't think so. The last great feature of this game (for PC users only) is the editor that comes with it, which is one of the most user friendly editors that I have come across, so the game's replay ability is only limited to the user's imagination.

All in all, if you are looking for the repetitive and fast past fell of an arcade-style shooter like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, then you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for what it feels like to actually get engaged by the enemy without the threat of dieing then look no further than this game. Cause in real war you do engage your opponents at the farthest distance possible (so you better practice your aim.
